Welcome from Congress Convenor and Secretary General APFSSH
It gives me great pleasure to invite you to participate in the 12th Asian Pacific Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand and the 8th Asian Pacific Federation of Societies of Hand Therapists triennial meeting to be held at the Melbourne Convention Centre from 11th -14th March 2020. This will be the second time the Australian Hand Surgery Society has hosted the APFSSH 20 years ago and ten years after we hosted the very successful International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand meeting in 2007 in Sydney.
The congress will be held at the newly extended Melbourne Convention Centre at Southbank overlooking the Yarra river against the backdrop of the Melbourne skyline. Melbourne has yet again been voted the most liveable city in the world making it an ideal destination for surgeons and therapists from all over the world to meet together, share ideas and to pick up new skills and ideas.
This is an exciting opportunity for our trade partners to reach surgeons from many varied countries, societies and health systems. To promote new products and technology to new markets and to further engage with established markets. Our theme of “Hand Surgery and the Digital Revolution” is an ideal forum to promote cutting edge technologies to an ever shrinking world.
To achieve this we have a state of the art display area adjacent to the scientific halls and breakout rooms. All morning and afternoon refreshment breaks and lunch breaks will be in the display area ensuring maximum exposure throughout the congress. A wide range of partnership opportunities are available to suite your particular requirements and to provide you with maximum exposure at a world class event.
On behalf of the organising committee for the 12th APFSSH and 8th APFSHT I invite you to Melbourne in 2020 for an unparalleled experience.
Anthony Berger
Convenor
Secretary General APFSSH
Welcome from APFSSH President
Dear colleagues and friends,
The 12th congress of the Asian Pacific Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (APFSSH) in conjunction with the 8th congress of the Asian Pacific Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy (APFSHT) will be held on March 11th ~14th, 2020 at the historic city of Melbourne, Australia.
Welcome to the 12th APFSSH 2020!
The venue will be at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, in the heart of the city.
The theme of the congress is “Hand Surgery and the Digital Revolution”. The organising committee of the congress has been working eagerly to introduce the concepts on how computers and digital technology are impacting on each of the topics. Many interesting topics of hand surgery as well as many famous international guest speakers and faculties will be in charge of special lectures, symposia, and free papers.
The 1st APFSSH congress was held at Perth, Australia in 1997. Most of the member countries of the APFSSH including Singapore, India, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines, had hosted the APFSSH Congresses, and 12th congress will be held in Australia again. Now, the APFSSH congress becomes one of the most important and the highest academic hand congresss in the world. I am quite confident that this APFSSH meeting in Melbourne will be successful more than ever.
I sincerely invite all the friends from the Asian Pacific region, Europe, and Americas to join the 12th APFSSH congress. There will be lots of joy, heartful friendships, and of course kind exchanges of top-class knowledge on the hand surgery.
Let’s enjoy this great feast.
Sincerely yours,
Goo Hyun BAEK, MD, PhD
President
Asian Pacific Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand
Welcome from APFSHT President
Welcome to Melbourne and the combined congress of the 8th congress of the APFSHT with the 12th APFSSH congress. The APFSHT presents a great opportunity for therapists from the Asia Pacific region to share their clinical knowledge and evidence based practice in hand therapy.
I would like to invite hand therapists from all Asian countries and other regions in the world to join this wonderful event in Melbourne. To our APFSHT representatives: Yazid from Malaysia, Jose from the Philipines, Kris from Singapore, Kent from Taiwan, Emma from Hong Kong, Seiji from Japan, and Anne from Australia; please take the lead in inviting your members to share their knowledge with us in the congress.
I would also like to thank the APFSHT organising committee and the President of the Australian Hand Therapy Association Lara Griffiths for their effort in promoting and preparing for the congress.
Looking forward to meeting you all in Melbourne March 11-14, 2020.

Welcome from AHSS President
As President of the Australian Hand Surgery Society I invite you all to join us in Melbourne for the 12th congress of the Asian Pacific Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (APFSSH) in conjunction with the 8th congress of the Asian Pacific Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy (APFSHT). The dates will be March 11th ~14th, 2020.
I am sure Melbourne will present its best face and be an ideal location for this important international hand surgery meeting. Dr Tony Berger and his organising team are putting together an exciting program that will be educational, stimulating and engaging, and provide great opportunities to share and learn.
The Asian Pacific Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand plays an important role in gathering and sharing the expertise in Hand Surgery internationally, but with a focus on issues pertinent to our region. I attended and presented at the inaugural Congress of the APFSSH in Perth in March 1997, and since then the Federation has grown to be an important international hand surgery forum. The Congress has rotated through most the member countries, and it is a great honour for it to return to Australia.
We will try our best to make your visit to Melbourne a meeting to remember with special lectures, symposia, and free papers covering interesting topics of hand surgery. We will have many eminent guest presenters from around the globe to support a skilled local faculty. The Congress theme of “Hand Surgery and the Digital Revolution” is very pertinent in our current hand surgery practice and embracing and optimising the benefits of the changing technology environment will be critical to provide the best care for our patients.
I am sure I speak as one on behalf of all Australian Hand Surgeons and Hand therapist in inviting and hopefully welcoming you to Melbourne in 2020
